Sulfuric acid in NZ
Hey this is kind of a short question but im looking for a easy over the counter supply of sulfuric acid in new zealand?
I have checked bunnings and all there drain cleaner is just sodium hydroxide, I have checked all the local plumbing stores but they seem to be more
orientated towards selling me a bath or shower, i have checked mitre 10 which again just sells diggers stuff which is usually just sodium hydroxide
and paint strippers and stuff.
I have run out of places to look and have resorted to trying to make it from 28% HCl, 35% H2O2 and sodium metabisulfite. The other option is to buy
98% sulfuric acid from chemical supply house except that means i have to deal with the cops every time i wanna buy sulfuric acid and given that im
going to be using sulfuric acid to prepare nitric acid, conc HCl and also phosphoric acid as well as any other uses i need it for in the future i just
don't think its a good idea dealing with the cops every time I wanna get this stuff.

Have you looked for "low fume" pool acid? Normally is 35% sulphuric. Still needs to be boiled down but at least available in 5 to 20 litre range.

35% sounds analogous to HCl. Are you sure it is sulfuric acid?

The low fume type seems to be HCl and "no fume" to contain ~34% sulphuric . . .

OK so "no" not low and 34 not 35% jeez nitpick was helping out from memory. You really think I don't know the difference between hydrochloric and
sulphuric?

I remember seeing that you can produce sulphuric acid from the electrolysis of pure elemental sulfur in a solution of hydrobromic acid, i have no idea
where you could get a cheap source of hydrobromic acid however... i'll have a look into it.

I found a source that is 50-60% sulphuric acid, comes as a concentrated drain cleaner. It's called speed drain cleaner.
