I was shocked to here this story on the news.
Perusing toxicity data is looks like phosphine is something like 1/6 as toxic as phosgene (which is very toxic) and is cumulative over the course of
hours (but not over the course of days like phosgene).
Be aware if you try to produce phosphorus using the aluminium reduction method! Aluminum phosphide may be produced.
