what sort of pump do you guys use
what sort of pump do you guys use. i just connect mine directly to the garden hose and put it on as low as possible and higher if doing a reflux and
the vapour are getting to high up the column. sorry for the noob question

I use a KNF or Vacuubrand dual stage diaphragm pump for evaporation and filtering. A couple of air conditioning dual stage rotary vane pumps obtained
from eBay ($200 AUD!) for high vacuum distillation/schlenk lines.

i meant a water circulating pump but tell me about these vacuum pumps., are they only $200. i use a stainless steel aspirator to pull a vacuum. when
looking for a vacuum pump what sort of stats am i looking for, flow rate? motor power? ultimate vaccume?
would this sort of thing be good for me (im poor)

Look for fountain pumps made for outdoor garden fountains. Shouldn't be too expensive and they recirculate water so its not very wasteful. Here's an example of one

I doubt that would produce sufficent pressure to drive an apirator pump to produce significant vaccum. The water circulator pump flow rate and
pressure needs to be matched to the aspirator's required water flow rate and pressure to acheive its spec vaccum.

Mostly I use the garden hose 
but if I want an ice-water circulating system I use one of these tiny usb water pumps

so far it has been sufficient for my 24/29 system.
EDIT : the pressure is minimal, ice-water bath/reservoir height is important with such a small pump.

I have one similar to this:

and in terms of water pumps; I either use a Julabo recirculating chiller with ethylene glycol or a 600L/h aquarium pump in ice water $10 on eBay if I
need additional cooling. Having an ice machine in the lab is very helpful in this case - our lab has one shared between all the businesses.

I use a normal fan for venting and a general purpose hand pump from my local hardware store (they also sell it at Walmart for ten dollars) it is good
at being a liquid pump and a somewhat okay vacuum pump, I can get to -21 inHg on it.
