Sciencemadness turns 15 today

Judging by the date the first members joined, Sciencemadness is 15 years old today. Happy Birthday, Sciencemadness!

(Many thanks to Polverone and others for keeping it going this long.)

Donations

Unfortunately it looks like the gif is gone from the donations page. Used to be one of my favorites. From memory:

Speaker A: I do declare Sciencemadness.org to be my favorite site of all time
Speaker B: Yes indeed, Polverone is certainly a King among Men
Speaker A: For a king he is rather impoverished.

Thanks for the kind words.

The donation gif never left the site -- it just wasn't publicly linked any more.

I don't have the money troubles with this site that I did when I was still a student. Or even when I had an abrupt job loss ~6 years ago and SM donations poured in, and a member found another job opportunity for me. That's why I have stopped even low-key fundraising efforts.

This site gets back-burnered a lot and I would feel like a swindler taking donations for a site that I'm rarely improving. I still love chemistry and seeing what everyone here is up to from time to time, but deaths in the family that started in 2011 and just keep going made me want to spend less time online during my free hours. I'm working on some improvements but I can't give time estimates for completion any more.

Belated congratulations from me too!

Thank you Polverone, especially for the persistence and endurance to keep SM up all the time :)

I´m looking forward to the next 15 years! :D

Congrats, I noticed less influx of new enthusiasts lately, maybe because new generations are stuck on their cell phones? heh

On the contrary, I've noticed a large influx than usual thanks to those [censored] Youtubers. On the one hand, I guess I should thank them, at least grudgingly, but on the other hand, it's getting to be really annoying when someone describes a reaction "like Nile Red did it" or "like Nurdrage did it" and expect me to know what they're talking about. I don't have the time to watch an entire Youtube video just to figure out what procedure someone used, damn it.

edit: Polverone: if I edit the php registration page (based on the latest version of the forum software) for the boards to add a question that would trip up bots, would you be able to replace the existing file with it? I believe it's "members.php". I just want to make sure that if I put in the work, I'm not going to be left hanging, with nobody to contact to finish the job.
