What are the surfaces like? Bright like the first pic or oxidised like the second?
If these are anything like as good as the sodium samples you sold earlier they will be stunning. My only use is for the element collection and I already have Be. But they are little discoloured fragments. A shiny rod would be excellent.

How are they packaged? Again for the element collection I want it in an ampoule. If it was already ampouled, that would be a bonus.

The surface of the first type of rods is machined, shiny and polished. The second type of rod surface is NOT oxidized, she just made matte. The rods are packed in plastic, sealed bags. You can solder in a vial, it will cost an additional $ 5. Samples are really very high quality and will be a good addition to any collection of chemical elements.

I ordered the longer rod (5 gram). I can tell you that its finishing is very nice. No irregularities, nice shiny and smooth surface. It is amazing to have such a big rod, which is so light.

How hazardous is the bulk metal? I know Be dust is horrifying, are these machined rods safe to e.g. keep in a plastic bag?

This bulk beryllium is not very hazardous. If you really want to be sure, take these rods, immerse them in water (they do not react and behave like aluminium metal in contact with water) and wipe them dry with a piece of paper tissue. Any dust then is removed.

It is the same as with lead. Lead metal is toxic, but the bulk metal is used extensively in buildings, despite its toxicity. As long as the metal remains in the bulk state it can be handled safely.

Just bought a shiny rod and some crystalline niobium. I'll follow woelen's excellent advice on cleaning the rod when I get it.
Can't wait! The Be will go great next to my tungsten cylinder :)

The Be arrived today. Damn that was fast.

I love decent sized element samples. We are so used to handling steel and aluminium that anything else just feels the "wrong" weight.

Beryllium is so light. It is gorgeous.

Anyway, thanks Chemcraft for an excellent product once again.
