He references the potential for using silver acetylide rather than conventional AgCl, suspended in gelatin ("emulsion"), for photographic purposes.
The reference cites that gelatinized Ag acetylide darkened 10 x faster.

Sorry I assumed that it was common knowledge that silver
acetylide is a light sensitive explosive.

Abstract:
Ag2C2 emulsions in gelatin, polyvinyl alcohol, and collodion were studied to determine the effect of the degree of saturation with
acetylene. For all three types, photosensitivity, fog, and contrast were plotted as functions of development time. The gelatin and polyvinyl alcohol
emulsions were generally similar, while the collodion emulsions had the highest photosensitivities and developed fastest.
