Test for nitro compound on modified carbon
Hello
I recently went about attempting to modify the surface of graphite using a diazo reduction method. Since the most sophisticated piece of equipment I
have is a melting point determinator, I am unable to do infrared scans etc to verify that my reaction worked. The molecule I attempted to modify the
graphite with is 4-nitroaniline, after the loss of nitrogen I expected to have a graphite-nitrobenzene type modification. My question is, how would I
test for the nitro compound on the graphite surface. And if reducing the nitro to an amine then testing via diazo is the best method to show results
,that is- if it can be reduced without removing the compound from the surface of the graphite.
