KClO3 from NaClO and KCl

3NaClO + KCl = KClO3 + 3NaCl

The masses of the individual elements are:

Na = 23
K = 39.1
Cl = 35.5
O = 16

Total atomic mass of reactants = 298.1
Relative mass of NaClO = 74.5 * 3 = 223.5
Relative mass of KCl = 74.6

Total atomic mass of reactants = 298.1
Relative mass of KClO3 = 122.6
Relative mass of NaCl = 58.5 * 3 = 175.5

the ratio of NaClO to KCl required is 75% to 25% gives 41% KClO3 and 59% NaCl

1 liter Bleach = 30.00 gram NaClO and 10 gram KCl = 16.4 gram KClO3 and 23.6 gram NaCl

I think this would work better if you first preformed thermal decomposition on the NaClO. This would form 1 mole of NaClO3 and 2 moles of NaCl. You then preform the double replacement to form KClO3 and another mole of NaCl. You may end up with NaCl, KClO, KCl, and NaClO all in equilibrium if you just mixed them together.

I know for a fact this method works. I carried it out over the weekend. I did get most horrible yields though. Something like 52%. It also seems that you have fairly weak bleach. 30 grams per liter is something like 3%. Are the yields better with the lower concentration? 6% is commonly available here.
