Always check the container is appropriate - happened to me with H2O2, rapidly oxidising my wooden chemical storage cabinet after eating through its plastic bottle.

Ammonia rings a bell - I think I had a similar experience to this, but the container hadn't even arrived at my doorstep before it leaked. The package stunk of ammonia, which had eaten through the plastic bottle and was now soaking the cardboard box. Straight out hazard to the postman. Quickly poured the remaining 880 ammonia into a glass bottle, recovering perhaps only 50% of what was sent.

There was about strong acids in PET.

I can attest that PET is compatible with concentrated HCl.

Around 10-12 years ago I split content of 25L concentrated (36%) technical HCl into number of 2L PET bottles for ease of handling. Used it all years ago apart from 2 bottles which "hid" behind other stuff on a shelf. Discovered them last year. PET bottle was as strong as new, just gained a little yellow tint.
