Mg2Si + Cl2 (magnesium,silicon,Chlorine compounds)

I need some help with the following:

Is a compound containing magnesium, silicon and chlorine possible? eg what would be the result of a reaction of Magnesium Silicide and Chlorine ( Mg2Si + Cl2 )

Or: MgCl2 + Si

Thanks in advance for any help ;)

Mg2Si + 3 Cl2 = MgCl2 + SiCl4 I can see happening, given a sufficient excess of Cl2. MgCl2 will merely melt around remaining Si until then.

This is slightly off topic perhaps, but I did an experiment with magnesium silicide once. magnesium and silicon powders were fused together over a bunsen and then the test tube it was contained in was broken apart and it was all dumped into some 1M hydrochloric acid. Silane gas was produced, which is pyrophoric and so spontaneously combustes when it reaches the air.
