1,3-butadiene, 50% H2O2, 100-140 C, 10 to 50 atmospheres pressure, various catalysts; distillation tower to separate reactants and products. Search the patent literature for more specific information. Or do like everyone else and buy it from the Chinese.

HTPB - Buy don't make


I assume you are interested in rocketry. The synthesis is found in United States Patent 4853051. Dont even try to make HTPB. You'll still need an acrylate plasticizer, a curing agent and a bonding agent plus the oxidizers and burn rate modifiers. The particle size of your ammonium perchlorate is important also. If you google HTPB kit, you should find what you want for $100. Of if you buy the chems separately, a gallon of HTPB is $40 plus the same for the curative needed for a gallon. I haven't seen HTPB in bottles smaller than one gallon. Hope this helps. Good luck.
