ortho-nitrophenol
Ortho – nitrophenol is a strategic chemical used in the commercial preparation of many organic compounds. It is desired to produce 50 TPD of o –
nitrophenol.
Due to the shortage of phenol in market it cannot be directly used as a raw material.
I need suggestions for producing o- nitrophenol industrially and the equipment required which is cost effective.
What can be the best way of producing ONP not using phenol directly as a raw material?
Please help!!!

You have responsibility for process engineering for a 50 TPD plant but you do not have a grasp of rudimentary industrial chemistry of aromatic
compounds?
Come on, tell us another one!
Look into the nitration of chlorobenzene.
Sulfonate chlorobenzene to block the 4-position, then mononitrate the chlorobenzene-p-sulfonic acid in the cold with mixed acids and then remove the
sulfonic acid group with conc H2SO4. Use only the theretical amount of HNO3 and watch the temperature or you may get some dinitrated product.
Convert the o-nitrochlorobenzene to o-nitrophenol by alkali fusion.

This is rudimentary stuff.
My best guess therefor is that this is a homework assignment and you are a very beginning Chem Eng student.

Cathodester, the logo at the top left of the page clearly describes this forum as one for amateur science. There is nothing here that could
make anybody believe this forum is about profit making, yet you come here asking to solve a problem you are paid for and about which your company is
interested for profit.
(They pay someone that goes asking amateurs about designing an industrial process of 50 tones per day? WTF? No wonder capitalism is crashing.)
