Sodium polyacrylate, aka "Super Slurper" and "fake snow" or "dry snow". Forms a gel with water, up to several hundred times te weight of the dry polymer. Fairly expensive stuff, unless you go around stealing unused baby diapers.

My point was "digging in the ground to install the goalposts , suddenly water came from every where" indicates a source of water was hit which is going to keep renewing itself. After you use up every diaper on earth, the water will still be coming up.
