Another procedure, much more unpleasant but has worked in the past for me is bubbling chlorine gas through the tincture, and that oxidises the KI into I and KCl and also helps precipitate the I2 already dissolved.

What about boiling off the liquid and reacting the ppt. with conc. H2SO4 (or dilute acid + oxidizer)?

I think that would work, but would be harder to work with, it would be preferable just to remove the ethanol then add sulfuric acid to the conc KI + I2 solution with H2O2 or some other oxidizing agent
