The scientist (he must be, he's wearing a lab coat) is Dmitri Mendeleev. You
can verify this by puzzling out the birth and death years below the picture, which is easier that puzzling out the Persian script, if you know
neither.
The most amusing picture to me is the one for antimony, Sb. It's showing eye makeup, which is kohl, antimony sulfide.
