2-hydroxy-5-methoxybenzaldehyde from 4-methoxyphenol

What purity/grade NaOH is suitable for this reaction (Reimer Tillman formylation)? Reagent grade is available, however it would be nice to know if hardware lye is sufficient for this reaction. 2-hydroxy-5-methoxybenzaldehyde will be further methylated to 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde. I would like to know if this conversion is tolerable to impurities from lower grade NaOH.

The hardwarestore lye I get is 99.9% pure NaOH, which is pretty pure.
