In this video guy uses no more than 0.1 g. of explosive and they state those explosives can have velocity between 4300-6500 m/s which is a medium
velocity, even below medium... so is it possible to do this with the watermelon

No. I think it is quite suspect that the pen-casing is not removed. There might very well be a couple of grams of HE in there. There might also be
some inserted into the melon.
