Subbing erythritol for pentraerythritol?

Could you do this?

I am wondering if you could perform this exactly as is but using erythritol instead of pentra but the same amount as pentra. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/8631529/synthesis_of_petn_with...

Or is there a completely different way of going about it

Thanks ^^ that answers my question then. So instead f adding erythritol to sulfuric acid/AN the two powders are pre mixed and is added to the acid. The is very in depth description too. I want to eventually be able to do that relatively safely and know what I am doing so just reading bits at a time and doing other stuff for now. Even though erythritol is different from pentra, they act the same in the production is what I see there.

I also saw the recrystalization process. So no heat was used in that, but why did the guy who had the hand accident use heat in recrystalizing the etn from ethanol???
