Nitrating a methyl group

You want nitrating a methyl group. You will start with
2-methyl-1,4-diethylenediamine and the end product sould be
2-nitromethyl-1,4-diethylenediamine.
Is it feasible in this configuration get the endproduct
with a easy nitration ,how nitrated the methl group which
is stable or the methyl group must be dispersed ?

NH-CHCH3-CH2-NH-(CH2)2
-->
NH-CHCH2NO2-CH2-NH-(CH2)2
or
NH-CHNO2-CH2-NH-(CH2)2

What do you say to the syntheses and which chemical will needed ?
