It's not like there's anything suspicious about bulk metal, it's just another common metal like aluminum and steel. Look for scrap suppliers, you should be able to find it under $1/lb.

Is scrap magnesium, i.e., that used for fabricated parts, very pure? I had a lawn mower once that was supposed to be made of magnesium (Lawnboy, circa 1975). I thought that it probably was a magnesium alloy.

I recovered 2 sacrificial anodes from my worn out hot water heater. I think they are magnesium, perhaps fairly pure. These likely can be ordered as replacement parts.

Have a look at eBay and search for "magnesium metal". Sometimes, tens of offers pop up, ranging from very pure (but expensive) Mg from element sellers to scrap at a price tag of less than $10 per pound. Bulk magnesium is shipped internationally by most sellers. Powdered magnesium is a whole different story and is not easily obtained from international suppliers.

Magnesium

Rogue chemist, the magnesium sold by magnesiumsales is in large ingots. The
prices are good especially at the bulk rate. Beats the hell out those expensive
and small firestarter blocks !

Thanks for help!
However, 90% purity for metallic Mg would be sufficient to me....
