Still alive as of a few hours ago.

In fact he has posted more in the last three days than you have in your entire time here under this moniker.

you just been reading for a long time, and finally joined? or have another name you go by homechemistry? odd that one would immediately jump to the dead conclusion. bert is always suggesting safety, planning and reading. not a likely candidate for early demise

I was thinking about something like this recently. Sometimes I encounter someone who post stuff that is really interesting to me. Then I search his posts and realize that his last posts were few years ago and they were about some dangerous chemicals.... and then no posts since there and it's like 5 years past now.
Guys, don't go like that. He might have created a new account, maybe lost the password for the old one. I wish admins could write about his new account name, because this shit is scarying me, I can't sleep.

When people don't post anymore I think it is far more likely that they just lost interest rather than dying.

Sorry if I was unclear. I was inferring [implying] that this particular user may have a few different identities on these boards and has in the past engaged in baiting Bert (fat lot of good that would do.)

Of course I may be wrong.
Homescientist has a small posting history which includes elementary questions on calculations and now a query on the status of a long-time member and administrator. This is not a coherent or normal pattern. Like his previous questions, the answer is most easily found through a quick search.

edit
I both inferred and implied and I should learn to write the correct word.

Averages:
4.55 posts per member
20,372.47 posts per forum
12.99 replies per thread
73.34 posts per day
16.10 new members per day
9.46% of all members have posted.

On the Sciencemadness Discussion Board, there are:
346317 posts
24667 topics
17 forums (17 active)
76049 members

161 members have visited the site today

0.0946 x 76049 = 7194 members have posted

Should I be worried about all of those members? Only 161 members visited today. That's a lot of worry.

Note: For the first several years of SM, the % of all members have posted hovered closer to 50%. Those were the days,,,

Those are some unexpected statistics!

Only 9.4% of members actually post? Then it's only 4 posts?

That's WAY to much slack for the rest to carry.!.!.! Why do people join if they do not post? I don't get it.

Rapopart’s Rules for critical commentary:

1. Attempt to re-express your target’s position so clearly, vividly and fairly that your target says: “Thanks, I wish I’d thought of putting it that way.”
2. List any points of agreement (especially if they are not matters of general or widespread agreement).
3. Mention anything you have learned from your target.
4. Only then are you permitted to say so much as a word of rebuttal or criticism.

Anatol Rapoport was a Russian-born American mathematical psychologist (1911-2007).

That makes sense to me. Its because of the type of Google searches this forum comes up for. I hazard a guess that it is mostly 12-17 year olds who like fireworks search something related and join solely for the energetic forum only to realize this is way more involved.

Its not a bad thing because there are some who are truly dedicated to chemistry and those are the ones who make this forum the great place it is. It is not chemistry's fault when "kids" think chemistry they think its fun and its all explosives, drugs and fireworks. We can only hope that an interest in why chemical reactions occur will develop.

And yeah I also think people lost interest or life caught up not that they died. The only reason I can be so active is my job is to sit at a desk so I get some time to browse otherwise it would be difficult.

Chemistry is a natural drive, not an interest.

I concluded that the large number of unposting members came from spammers who had had their posts deleted.

Dateline Florida...
Homechemistry brings Super Moderator "Bert" back from the grave.
While we are unsure if HomeChemistry is HomeChemistry or Home Chemistry, we will share all the breaking details as they develop. Updates at 10:00

Coming up on a very special episode of The Simpsons, Homer declares he is a transgender while Bart fights for his life in Canyon Gorge.

Stay tuned... ;)
