aniline synthesis


I heard that aniline was first made by the distillation of indigo . How can i perform this at home. Has anybody tried it and can i make it with indigo and naoh instead of koh.

I think the easiest and most practical way is probably outlined in this patent:

Ethanol can be used instead of acetaldehyde, at the expense of more nitric acid.
