Energy needed to fuse proton with something?

I heard for nuclear reactions where proton can fuse with element (isotope).
What amount of energy is needed? Should binding energy of that isotope be overcomen, or is much less energy needed? Or simply asked: is same energy needed as for fusing that element with itself?
