HBr in diazotation

Hi

I have a question, in diazotation is it possible to replace HCl with HBr? I want to make 2-BROMAPROPANOIC ACID by this reaction http://www.orgsyn.org/demo.aspx?prep=cv8p0119 . Can I use HBr instead of HCl?

Treating lactic acid with HBr will give a good yield?

Lactic acid has no amine functionality, why would this synthesis be related?

I was asking if treating lactic acid with HBr will give me 2-BROMAPROPANOIC by replacing -OH with -Br with good yield.

HBr will work in the diazotation. I'm not so sure about the lactic acid version.
