Improvised Hg retort

I was thinking about how I could purify an amount of mercury without using any of my labglass.

So, after noticing that I had borosilicate tubing I decided to make a retort just for distilling small amounts of Hg.

I took an 8mm x 24inch pyrex tube and sealed one end then rounded off the sealed end on a block of graphite. Then bent the tube approx. 3 inches from the sealed end to a 75 degree angle.

How to get the Hg into the flask part of the retort without contaminating the condenser tube is to use a 6mm dia glass tube put inside the retort to the bulb part of the retort.

Be careful to not pour too much Hg into the retort as the weight may cause the glass to break.
