Just got my first hotplate/stirrer what do u think?

i just got what i consider an amazing Hotplate/stirrer combo, i searched for months to find the one i wanted that will last and be very useful. The one i got is a 10x10 Thermo Scientific with digital reading 0-400C. On eBay ive seen them usually around $400 but i managed to get this one at a killer deal of $150! im super syked about this. Never had such a great piece of equipment before.

shows whatan ass i am and why eBay is not that great. The thing turned on when i got it, and it stirred very well. However after this first test, i went back a few hours later, and absolutely nothing, no power, it wouldnt turn on, it wouldnt stir, wouldnt heat, wouldnt do shit. Buyer Beware, but thats always the risk i guess.

i would kill to be able to do that kind of stuff, but i have no electronics training or anything like that. What happened was i turned it all the way up just for 1 second to see how high the digital temp went and then i turned it off, but the plate kept getting hotter and hotter even tho it was off. And then i guess it just burned itself out.

Is that why the display only reads "Hot"?

Someone here may be able to either fix it for you (for some cost, I presume), or buy it cheap from you in order for them to repair it.

if it was cheap and used a relay sounds like it welded tot he close position but mosfets can fail closed too, so you'd need to replace the element and the switch but go back and find the drive out tot he switch to see why.
