Making copper chloride

would this be a viable route to copper nitrate

hi, i was wondering if these three equations would work

Cu(s) + H2SO4(Aq) -> CuSO4(Aq) + H2(G)

CuSO4(Aq) + HCl(Aq) -> CuSO4(Aq) + H2SO4

CuSO4(Aq) + HNO3(Aq) -> HNO3)Aq)

thanks in advance

Short answer, no.
Cu is not really affected by sulfuric acid unless you are doing electrolysis. But copper sulfate is generally not too difficult to obtain.
From a copper sulfate solution, add sodium carbonate to precipitate basic copper carbonate. Filter, wash and dry. Then react with HCl to get a copper chloride solution. Boil down and crystallise your product.

I am slightly confused here...

Copper(ii) sulfate + hydrochloric acid => Copper (ii) sulfate + sulfuric acid. ??? Where does the HCl go? And where does sulfuric acid come from? Maybe you meant

CuSO4 + HCl => CuCl2 + H2SO4

But what about the volatility of HCl, compared with that of sulfuric acid? What does that lead you to believe?

Are you aware that sulfuric acid + some chloride salts, leads to generation of hydrochloric acid?

H2SO4 + 2NaCl -> Na2SO4 + 2HCl

Now that we looked at that, how you feeling about the second scenario you question? Are there similarities between HCl and HNO3? Consider again B.P. of sulfuric acid.

Bill, you're going to need to do your research a little harder before posting a thread like this. There is a wealth of information on making simple copper salts on this forum as well as other sites. Also, please try to write equations that at least balance...
