Parr Controller Mod 4843 for 4521 Reactor
I lucked out and found the controller for my otherwise complete 4521 one liter Parr stirred pressure reactor (autoclave) which I bought last month
sans the controller.
Controller turned up from same supplier for $300. So I grabbed it.
This controls both the stirrer motor and the heating mantle. the latter being a PID relay connected to a Type J iron constantan thermocouple.
There are two expansion slots for optional modules for various additionalfunctions, but as I am highly unlikely to encounter these used, and the
prices as new from Parr are probably horrific, there isn't much chance of getting involved with them.
I do have a question which maybe one of you EE types can help me with.
This equipment is 120V 50/60 Hz. I must operate it from 220V mains through a stepdown autotransformer. My question is, should I put an isolation
transformer in between, to prevent any inductive coupling from taking place and possibly damaging the PID relay?
A pdf of the Model 4843 manual is attached which includes schematic and a discussion of inductive and noninductive loading but it is gobbledigook to
me.
Help!! I do not wish to upgefuck my $2000 investment in this system.
My autotransformer is rated at 3 KW which is about 2X max input of the controller. So the controller will not seriously tax the transformer.
