NOT EXTREMELY IMPORTANT

sorry for being a "sensationalist media" or a hypocrite or writing in detritus or a wanker...

It just wanted to know. As long as you have reliable information and probably good experience in it you're safe right? I guess so.

Yes, I wrote this shit because I saw someone in the school lab got seriously hurt, I was in charge on that day and I was too busy with my stuff I didn't observe a 16 year old sneak inside and conducted some acetone peroxide experiments from some unreliable source. He was trying to synthesise 4 bottles of it at the same time! Yes, one of them obviously went off, and so did the rest. I went to help, but he was unconscious. I tried picking him up, and his skin was just simply slipping off him. I later out that a glass fragment had impaled his appendix, ruptring it.

And I got the blame... it's my fault..

The questions look like this guy works for the sensationalist media. Absolutely not the kind of publicity we can use!

Just what I was thinking.

But c'mon guys, to be fair - did anyone else check out the user profile? If I had access to the kinds of information that's about today when I was 14, I'd hate to image the questions I'd have been asking, & the mischief I'd have found myself in.

For somebody of that age, these are all perfectly valid questions used in the process of working out what's what - what's truth and what's media beat-up & bull-shit. Something's only common sense when you know it..
(it's not the way I'd go about it as an adult, but as a teenager I probably would have had similar questions)

Let's assume tity-o-mac to be as old as the user profile states, if you don't like the thread, just don't touch it. Use your common sense gentlemen..

Going for #1 - under the etc part. Any person from the sensationalist media would have come up with much better options than those presented. Similarly, the poll would not be an exclusive-or situation (radio-buttons), but would have allowed multiple options to be selected (check-boxes).

Anyway, if you're "freakin' out man" - just have a look at the user profile + give the kid a break. I've seen worse grammar and less thought put into company memos by 30yr olds - but the standard certainly needs to improve.

Just be careful and responsible what information you choose to convey to what purports to be a 14 year old. We also don't need to be accused of being irresponsible old geezers teaching kids to make bombs.

Looks like a questionnaire a bureaucrat in Brussels would come up with. Forcing to pick one answer when several could apply, mostly loaded questions sounding as if the questioner has already made up their mind as to the results and wants to make sure that their "research" supports their decision.

The poll left off important choices such as "want to poison as many people as I can", "want to put razor blades in candy to give to children", and "hope to collapse the vacuum and destroy the universe".

Somehow I've made it well pas the half century mark without killing or maiming myself or others (well, at least without government approval) so I doubt my safety is in any danger from myself.

Ok where is the option for the majority of us?
"It beats surfing for porn"

:D

lol nah, I'm sure the majority of people here are for the science, as the poll is already showing.

"think homemade experiments are safe"

In some cases safer than the ones at a university! Seems like a myopic insinuation that home experiments are horrifically dangerous, and taking the rest of the poll options, only deal with explosives manufacture. :o :P
Seems like he's just got the wrong idea that all of us here are making explosives, or perhaps doing so irresponsibly. He said he's concerned for our safety!

This seems to be the gist of it: "The Sheeple are terrified of the scientists & the scientists are terrified of the sheeple. Ni-ice! Someone must be laughing somewhere...."

^^Thank you enhzflep. Odd that scientists (for the most part) make it easier for them, but they keep making it harder for us. :(

DETRITUS

My reasoning is that the questions do not have a broad enough spectrum and therefore the results will be screwed to an unreasonable level. It' the poll itself the young man wrote; not his age or anything but the results that such a skewed group of questions would give. We have actually had this discussion before. - DETRITUS

Who cares if he is only 14? Many people become interested and register around the age of 14; I did. I had been lurking for a year or so before that and was competent enough to expirement, explosives included. What I am saying is, most younger people don't make fools of themselves as quickly as this person.

By all means, conduct a poll, but do it like a sane individual. This poll looks like it was constructed by a penguin undergoing a vasectomy while under the influence of amphetamines.

Edited to contain an analogy.
