Bio: I am 52 and a retired navy vet, with a degree in electrical engineering and a love for everything scientific. I've decided to share a little bit more about myself, I think it's only fair. My primary job in the navy was building conventional explosives, yes its true (unfortunately,) also I was in what they called back then the PRP program (personal reliability program) which mearly meant that I had a top secret clearence, because I also handled nuclear weapons.

I was stationed aboard the USS Midway CV41 (conventional aircraft carrier.) Then after that I moved on to brunswick Maine where I was in a P-3 squadron (P-3 Orion submarine hunting aircraft.) there I worked mostly on the conventional and nuclear weapons systems of the aircraft, after the navy I worked for Verizon, which back in the 90's was still Bell Atlantic phone Co. working on the fiber optic network (splicing, repair and trouble shooting systems.)

Then I had one of the best jobs ever, I worked for this company called KC automation where we build high precision lab testing equipment, my specialty was building what was called the 20 port smoker (built to analyze tobacco in cigarettes, also it simulates the puff and draw patterns of human smoking so the cigarette manufactures know the precise amount of tobacco to put in each cigarette to maximize profits.

The second piece of equipment was the side-stream smoker, which was purely an analytical piece of equipment to determine the molecules in second hand cigarette smoke. we had a complete workshop, machine shop, R&D department, full laboratory facility where after building the equipment I got to work with the lab tech's and programmers to get the equipment tested and ready for shipment.

My title there was assembler level 3, which meant I built this equipment from the ground up, every frame, nut bolt, screw wire and piece of electronic equipment, plus I got to work with the electrical engineer's and mechanical engineer's in the design and modifications when needed, so darn facinating, I loved it. I also got to design the first ever power supply for the 20 port that I built for Japan, and it worked! (I know, it just makes ya feel good when you make something and it works!)

Anyway now I am very happy to just chill out with my cats and science projects and I hope my contributions here will do something positive.
Current Mood: always cool and calm...
