Variants Friedel-Craft reaction

Hello:
I am an old fan to chemistry and have been following its forum

and it very interesting and useful encounter, I like mainly chemical

organic. In the past I have made many experiences of organic

and inorganic chemistry; but particularly I have been interested in

syntheses of composed of pleasing aromas (essences). My

question is about variants of the reaction of Friedel-Craft, without

using AlCl3 directly which is laborious to handle and to open a

bottle of the reagent means to use it quickly since it is

deteriorated when keeping it.
I have made experiences using Al foil (small pieces)

producing AlCl3 ¨in situ¨ adding anhydrous HgCl2, for example

for a time back has been synthesizing cumene from benzene --

isopropyl chloride -- Al foil I have I initiated the reaction with a

small amount of HgCl2. The reaction it passes to room

temperature in exothermic form and it is modulated cooling

around 30ºC. Also I have used iodine like initiator, passing the

reaction in similar form (I have prepared IH from CHI3 dissolved

in excess of toluene or benzene and Al foil in pieces and having

initiated the reaction with some iodine crystals). Obvious also

the reaction can be bubbled anhydrous ClH and be initiated; but

he is but laborious
Excuse my english but it not my native language.

The Friedel-Craft reactions seems to be of interest for many variants of chemical reactions in aromatic rings and for heterocyclic reactions.

Ceck out Lambda's link.
