NaBh4 reduction capabilities........


In the reduction of Phenylalanine the use of NaBH4 had been documented to work reducing the amino acid to the amino alcohol(phenylalaninol), also in the Hive files the reduction of the acylated amine is also reduced under the reaction with NaBh4.

The question is this, will the reduction of an acylated phenylalanine and the reduction of the COOH occur simultaneously or should the acylated phenylalanine be first refluxed with NaBH4 , then add additional nabh4 with NiCl2 to fulfill the requirements to the documented reduction of the COOH to OH.

Trying to save a step...no, but seeing if all can be done in one pot with the addition of NABH4 and NiCl2for the multiple task......

Abstract
A new efficient and cost-effective method for the preparation of 1,2-amino alcohols is described.
The reactions of amino acids with NaBH4 in the presence of NiCl 2 or MoO3 in water give 1,2-amino alcohols in high yield. When optically pure amino acids were used, optically pure 1,2-amino alcohols were obtained.
