how to prepare this polymer ???

Hi everybody

i just wanna ask you about the preparation of the polymer attached

known that this polymer is prepared from ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol

i tried finding the procedure for this polymer and i found these sites

http://www.polymersource.com/shoppingCart/product.asp?ID=659

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7009033.html

the second one contain the procedure for polymers similar to the one i want but not the same

as i think we can do polymerization for the ethylene glycol
by ring opening and then addition of carboxyl group

the catalyst used in this process may be NaNH2 and using aquous alkali to control th epolymerization process ;)

but the rest of the steps are still unknown to me '

anybody help

thnx

The patent reference dos describe how to do it.

You will need to start with the hydroxy-butyric acid, treat if base so that the salt is formed and there is enough excess base to serve as a catalyst to cause ethylene oxide to react with the hydroxy group. There's goig to have to be several purification steps to remove by-products.

The very patent you gave in your first posting.

I suspect that a little searching of the patent literature on modified PEOs and and ethylene oxide will turn up a number related processes, for what the sometimes sketchy descriptions are worth.

Excuse me but what's going on here? You posted the patent procedure and then asked how to make it??? You don't like the patent method? You don't want to buy the hydroxy butyric acid? You bought a bunch of stuff from Fluka and didn't pay your bill? What?
