rapidshare- please stop using it
Last year Polverone asked us not to use rapidshare and I just spent a frustrating two hours trying to get one book in seven parts from that shitty
service. Please, please, please do not use rapidshare . There are numerous free file hosts with no limts.

4shared.com; mihd.net; and many others.
The real offender is rapishare.de
Rapidshare.com is not quite as bad.

Yes, yes, yes.
I am trying to avoid these services, both .com and .de as much as I can. I understand - nothing for free, but rapid works in a really shitty way. The
more people use it, the more shitty it becomes.
Remember - each shitty file you upload in there makes rapidhare more shitty for the rest of users.
(shitty is really nice word )

I would have edited the above if it were allowed to add this: rapidshare has no shelflife. All the papers in refs and the ones that were uploaded to
the 2-CH thread last fall are long gone because they were loaded up to rapidloss. Not only is the shelflife next to zero but there's file size
limitation s to non-members and I refuse to support RapidLoss whether it be .de or .net .com or whatever. Solo has been kind enough to provide a
comprehensive list of other choices.
Cheers one and all,

I never use 'free' services like RapidLoss or one of its 'alternatives'. For just EUR 2 or so per month you can have 3 GByte of online storage,
including a domain name and unlimited data transfer from the storage site and other internet locations. With this, you can be sure that the links
remain in existence for more than just a few weeks. I also think it is utterly annoying to see an interesting article while it has vaporized months
ago already
It might even be an option for some of you to share the cost of such an area if you are very tight on budget, but to my opinion there is no need to
use those crappy 'free alternatives'.

4shared gives 5 GB for free (generally no limits).
If you do not down/up - load as many (often big) files as some of us (for example me) - the problem just does not exist for you.

I do not really believe in those 'free' things. I simply do not trust them. How can I be sure that the files I upload to that location will be there
after 5 years? This kind of companies are like the wind. They come from nowhere and as easily go anywhere. With a paid service you have much more
certainty. If a company wants to discontinue a paid-for service they have to let all their users know, there is a lot of legal hassle for them and
they have to provide a method for smooth migration of the data. The free services instead can decide to pull the plug right now and no one ever hears
from them again.
Another really annoying thing with the free services is their method of downloading. Usually you first come into some overwhelming page loaded with
commercials. Then you have to study each square cm of the page in an attempt to locate the link which you want and finally you have to wait for some
time (and with some of them you need to click multiple times on well-hidden miniature links before download proceeds). The service I have simply
starts the download immediately without ever needing to visit a page. E.g. download can be done directly out of a post on sciencemadness.
But having said all the above things, I understand the choice for a free service. If you are a student or just started working, then your financial
situation can be such that you really need the money for other things. But for everyone, who can afford the few bucks per month for a paid service, I
really suggest to do that.

Equally good I can say: I do not belive in any online storage.
Paid or not, owner of server always can say: Sorry, server is damaged (fire, flood, tornado, rats ... whatever) and all data are lost.
I use 4shared for a long time (longer than a year) and I have no reasons to complain.
All ebooks at Gigapedia are located among such free services.

Mmmmm...... Generally it takes seconds to locate direct link when you are a little more "advanced". Besides, there are tools like Norton (+ adds) and
you will not see 90% of commercials. You really never use such services, or do it very rarely (because you have no reasons use them). You do not share
(or collect) any "scientific materials" (books, articles, programs...) to others, so you are not involved in this problem ( as I wrote earlier ).

Someone mentioned gigapedia above ; I assume the site would be http://gigapedia.org .
There are forums out there, where this site is mentioned as "incedibkle ebook site". But my 5min research gave only commercial amazon-links for any
books ...
Was this the site ? What did I wrong ? Or is it just such a former cool-site, that now uses it's image for commercial things ?

chief, sometimes I make download from Gigapedia.org, they have LOTS of books (very few are marked as "dead links"), just search (next to the search
box, place as gigapedia, not let it google/yahoo), go to the book you want and click on "links".. People link it to several hosts, but the great one
is iFile.it, you have free unlimited download and can do cross donwloads also.. To more info: http://gigapedia.com/searching (this link only work when logged)
So its very good before searching on gigapedia to register here (free and anonymous, needing only a valid email) and log in when search.

I have not found it overly challenging to locate the d/l links on more than one that I can think of. When you are a little more advanced maybe they
will be easier for you too.

You haven't paid attention- I generally post the pdf and they're generally 1-3 pages. The piperidone post was an exception. I plan to upload a book
to MH ftp and post the info but I have to replace this klunky scanner first. 3 chapters and pffft .. the thing freezes or blows up. Switiching to
Linux next week should help too.
When I'm a little more "advanced" I won't make all these f**king frames within frames.
