Ground glass compatibility
Could 24/29 (european) joints be used with 24/40 (american) joints? the only difference is the length of the joint i think, the width and angles are
the same.... thanks.

It is possible, use a keck clamp to make sure it does not blow out of the hole when heating. I use a 19/24 stopper in my 19/22 3 neck flask and have
had no problem when heating as long a keck clamp is in place.

Yes, as long as the first number is the same, the joints are typically compatible.

This topic comes up frequently.
Shorter male joints fit nicely in longer female joints.
However longer male joints will only fit in shorter female
joints if there are no interfering parts beyond the joint.
Often the glass beyond the joint is narrower and you
get interference, especially on lower quality glassware.

I could see how that would be an issue with more complex pieces of glassware, but for most simple glassware; flasks and straight condensers and such,
I have never had an issue with this. It also depends on how different the lengths of the joints are. In most cases, I doubt that 3mm is going to
cause any trouble.

What size TS glass stoppers are used with each? I thought TS27 went with 24/40, but I have some that are definitely larger. They are Pyrex brand, so
do they differ amongst manufacturers?
