New Sulfurated Borohydrides
In the course of recent paper chaseon alkali earth borohydrides I ran across a paper in the journal of P, S, and Si written by some Middle Eastern
researchers, claiming a novel sulfurated calcium borohydride prepared from S and Ca(BH4)2 in THF.
I set this aside till my hunt was completed, and then I took another look.
I recalled reading about Lalanocette's Reagent some time ago, prepared from (you guessed it) NaBH4 and S in (that's right) THF
At first I was a bit suspicious, but after a careful reading I am satisfied. The authors prerpared their novel reagents from Lalanocette's reagent and
cited his publication. The reason that the original sulfurated borohydride is sold as a premix is that ist is unstable, air and moisture sensitive,
and cannot be stored. The new Be, Ca and Mg compounds are stable, especially the Ca one and more reactive.
