From $40 a vial in 2000 to nearly $39,000 today
"The effort, the whistleblowers said in a lawsuit against the company, was part of an intentional "multi-tiered strategy" by Questcor Pharmaceuticals,
now Mallinckrodt, to boost sales of H.P. Acthar Gel, cheating the government out of millions of dollars."

(Reuters) - "The U.S. Justice Department has joined a pair of whistleblower lawsuits alleging a drugmaker now owned by Mallinckrodt Plc improperly
promoted an expensive multiple sclerosis treatment and paid kickbacks to doctors who prescribed the drug."
"Mallinckrodt in January 2017 agreed to pay $100 million to resolve claims that Questcor violated antitrust laws by sharply increasing the price of
Acthar while ensuring that no rival medicine appeared on the market."

How can they think anyone can afford to pay 39k for a vial?
Just stop selling it would be easier

Looks like Mallinckrodt is kind of down on the list, not even the top spot. Pretty smooth though to increase the price of an an inexpensive drug to
such heights. Imagine them sitting around pondering raising the price even more.

If I was president, I would immediately seize and nationalize the companies that pull these stunts. We give these companies very wide latitudes in
the marketplace and in exchange they need to behave themselves.

Seems like it, although in this case the collusion of dodgy physicians seems to have been a significant factor as well - I'm happy to see the pharma
firms taken to the cleaners for behaviour like this but I bet none of the doctors involved suffer anything more than a slapped wrist at most.
