Help
I just distilled some pyradine, but the problem is that most of it came over as a 50% azeotrope. Any tips on how to separate it?
There wasn't a fire, we just had an uncontrolled rapid oxidation event at the power plant.

Sodium hydroxide is a good drying agent for pyridine.
Please remember: "Filtrate" is not a verb.
Write up your lab reports the way your instructor wants them, not the way your ex-instructor wants them.

Ok. Once I add that, do I have to redistill?

I presume that upon addition, it will separate water into a layer similar to IPA that can be simply separated, and redistilled?

I believe so. If it's 50% water, you'll probably have to dry it more than once before distilling.

With this information, I would try to first cause layer separation with adding Conc NaOH solution, letting it sit for a while to clear out layers,
drain the bottom layer, use MgSO4 or similar, filter and distill. Or why not just add NaOH granulates and distill it from those? Maybe it'll etch
glass.
