H-B DURAC Thermometers

Does anyone have any experience with these thermometers?

Also, is a 25mm immersion enough for a 14/20 distillation setup?

sseems to be the gold standard regarding thermometers.
Take a old pipette or other glass-tube, cut to length, seal it on one end and voila'! instant thermometer well.

Those do not switch off after some time whats good and the 9V battery lasts for months on end when permanently on.

Although I have a strong feeling the old ones of this type were superior, they still do.

Currently looking at getting a thermocouple, but how does one seal the joint with the homemade thermocouple well? Teflon tape?

Thats mighty pricey for a glass thermometer. I’d recommend checking what Dr. Bob has in stock. I know I’ve purchased thermometers from him for a much lower price, both jointed and not.

Ideal immersion depth depends on the still head you’re sticking it in. You want the bulb of the thermometer to be in the vapor path to get an accurate reading.

Unfortunately Dr. Bob is all out of thermometers. I'm trying to work out what would be more cost effective between just getting a jointed thermometer and getting a cheap thermocouple and whatever adapters would be necessary for use with a 14/20 still head (with a 10/18 thermometer joint). Any guesses?
