HDPE/Nalgene winter static and sensitive fuel storage.
I'm less familiar with material sciences & engineering than I am chemistry.
I recently learned that HDPE/Nalgene can accumulate a rather powerful static charge. This concerns me as I have fuels which are VERY static sensitive
stored in nalgene bottles in my garage (some even just sitting the carpet). Plus, these fuels can be explosive when confined.
I live in an area with notoriously cold winters. So now I'm hoping to quickly move these fuels into anti-static containers, or a warmer storage area.
However, I have some questions first.
1. Can HDPE accumulate a static charge without direct friction applied to the containers? Can movement across the carpeting transmit static to the
stationary containers?
2. Advice on how to disapate any static that may have already accumulated would be highly appreciated. (I'm familiar w/ the wet cloth method, but
anything else would be good)
3. Any suggestions for containers to move everything into instead? These are fairly small reagent bottles. Around 100ml each.
