I have heard of a material made up of carbon fiber, how true is it that it is the lightest and srongest material?

Check out Wikipedia. there is a wealth of information on these there.

Pretty sure that aerogel is the lightest (solid, rigid) material, inasfar as you can make samples impregnated with light gases that are then lighter than air. But maybe you were just talking about strength-to-weight ratio? In any case 'strength' sounds so simple and yet as any materials scientist can tell you there are many different kinds of strength.. tensile strength, compressive strength, shear resistance, hardness, creep resistance, and rigidity just off the top of my head. Though they do tend to go together in some materials.
