Removing Ga from contaminated Al

Hi guys,

If you have a sample of aluminum contaminated with gallium, how will you separate the metals?

Thanks.

Maybe nitric acid would work... it should passivate the aluminum, while slowly dissolving the gallium.

Wash with dilute HCl to recover gallium. The aluminium will dissolve in the acid while gallium balls up on the bottom.
