Have you tested it with Al? How does it compare? I mean, the time it takes to melt it.

It's not dehydrated yet, but the 1st thing I'm going to test is how long it takes to melt a known mass of Al at a known current.

Once I worked in a factory where they had this "aluminum pot". It was just like yours. It just stood there all day with molten al inside. Must have been well insulated. When

I wish my refractory was that good.

you needed some, you lift the lid and picked it with a "spoon"(my english fails, the thing you use to serve soup). They were developing a new design for an eletric motor.

A "scoop"? :)

Arrgghhh.....

*fetching dictionary*

No... "scoop" is defined as (among other things) "<b>1</b>. a ladle or ladlelike utensil, ... " in <i>Webster's College Dictionary</i>.

But I've learnt a new word, <i>ladle</i>. Thank you, I like to learn a new thing at least once per day.

Edit1: <b>The furnace is almost dehydrated.</b> The steam has almost stopped evolving and the inside of the chamber walls are glowing orange-hot!

Both words are new to me. Learned something.

By the way, the "aluminum pot" was connected to power all the time, just didn't seem to consume much.

Oooooh, how I wish I could come up with a furnace design where most of the outside is separated from the inside by a vaccuum! That would be the holy grail, I think.....
