arcillite for cation exchange?

as i understand it, arcillite is sintered montmorillonite, (the major component of bentonite clay, which i have, in the form of kitty litter).

i have crushed and sifted the kitty litter, and intend to make a pair of cups with it, then sinter them, to make porous half-cells for electrolysis.

is there any chance this will be useful for cation exchange?
