yes, its all about kinetics and reflections (:
if the energy can keep on going in the direction it originally had then it will be more likely to stick to the direction it was heading and thus less splash

The little droplets that result from high impact of liquids are more common than I had imagined. I always wondered why there would be telltale little holes in my pants after pouring con sulfuric acid in the lab, right at the waistline. I would never notice the droplets when pouring the acid - just the resulting holes in my pants hours later.

If the lighting is just right you can see the astounding amount of spray in the form of tiny droplets that emanate from an emphatic speaker's mouth - it's amazing - makes you want to step back a foot or two. With Chris Matthews speaking one should step back at least 4 feet.

At my school this is common knowledge. Everyone directs their stream onto the side, not the back, of the urinals to prevent splashing.
