Alkyl and Aryl Derivatives of the Alkali Metals

I found a new organometal-related article when visiting the library. I found it specially interesting since it is put on a historical background.

Alkyl and Aryl Derivatives of the Alkali Metals: Useful Synthetic Reagents as Strong Bases and Potent Nucleophiles. 1. Conversion of Organic Halides to Organoalkali-Metal Compounds.
Organometallics 25(1) (2006) 2-24

1. James Alfred Wanklyn’s Synthesis of Alkylsodium and -potassium Complexes, 1858
2. Early Syntheses, without Isolation, of Organosodium Compounds from Organic Halides
3. Synthesis of Suspensions and Solutions of Organosodium and Potassium Reagents
4. Development of the Organolithium Reagents: Karl Ziegler, Georg Wittig, and Henry Gilman
5. Concluding Remarks

Quality article.

I have several of those refs/patents, but one came to mind immediately on seeing the topic. The benzylsodium IEC ref is interesting if you have sodium (given the very low price of chlorobenzene). Other available texts cover its preparation as well, but since the thread is here, here it is.
