Tumadre's Nitro-questions

I am confused.
nitro methane is or is not the same as Tetranitromethane?

also if I were to use h2so4 and Kno3 without distilling, would the Kso4 affect the product?

certain paint solvents use a mix of toulene, methanol, benzene.
would nitrating all three together be a bad idea? assuming nothing else is in there?

I've moved this to the Beginnings section as it otherwise spoils the perfectly decent methylnitrate thread with trivia. Please, tumadre, in the future read up before asking the perfectly obvious....

May someone else is kind enough to explain ...

It is not the same; nitromethane is CH3NO2, whereas tetranitromethane is C(NO2)4.

The K2SO4 would not affect the product, however, without distillation, you will not be able to obtain the nitric acid.

Yes, nitrating all three together would yield a wide variety of nitrated compounds, each of which would be difficult to separate.

KHSO4 will be formed, not K2SO4. That second proton won't come off in an environment this acidic.
