A purchase of 6 quartz tubes to try some thermoacoustic experiments or with
ornamental feathers, indigenous ceremonial peace pipes of some sort. 17 mm OD X 43 cm length to the elbow.
A simple experiment some months ago with mixed results.

Not having anything in mind but since they were for a dozen quartz tubes I offered the small amount of $25 and won the bid. They were new old stock,
10 of the taller ones and 2 shorter that were still in sealed decaying plastic bags in an old partitioned cardboard box. They are Leco combustion
tubes or as another eBay seller describes them a "172MM*35MM high frequency infrared carbon and sulfur analyzer quartz tube". There're several sellers
and it looks like the going price for a same/similar non-brand is around $45.00 a tube.

I thought I was buying a fused quartz dish 150mm x 140mm diameter, thick 5mm wall petri dish because I couldn't see the photos very well on eBay,
occluded by the glare and somewhat opaque bags it came in.
"Was $149.99 (75% off) $37.50 or Best Offer" I won bidding $32 and the $21.00 shipping cost.

The package arrived with two dishes, one sort of resting partially in the other. The bottoms are a heavy 10mm thick, the larger 150mm diameter dish
with a 68mm high wall. Together the two weigh a little over 1 kilogram. Now to find a good use for them.

I bought some of these casserole dishes because they seem to be fairly good for handling heat. The intention was to try to use them to make a hot air
jumper.

Purchased my first rotovap
I've wanted a rotovap for a while, and I saw that a Buchi R-200 was on sale for a pretty decent price, so I purchased it. But once I have that, I need
the heating bath, and since it comes with the vacuum controller, I needed a compatible vacuum pump.... See how quickly my spending habits get out of
control? Lol.

That looks like a nice score, SuperOxide. I went down the eBay rabbit hole recently as well. Picked up some Heidolph evaporator stuff here and there.
But not nearly as put together as what your unit looks like. Pretty cool.

This prism is 8.5 x 9.5 x 9.5 cm and 6.5 cm wide. But I don't know what it was used for. Two sides are frosted and the glass is a smokey color with a
partial mirror effect if viewed at certain angles. Strangely, when watching a Weather Channel through the prism, some wide vertical bands or borders
in the picture were white and black but viewed through the prism white became a vivid green and the black a red. It weighs 1055 grams.

Morgan, that could be a dispersion prism used in a spectroscope. Something that separates light into different wavelengths (colors). These days a
grating is more often used. The slight color of the prism is somewhat odd but it could be a special glass that transmits infrared or UV light
especially well. It could also be made of a crystal mineral like fluorite for it's light transmission properties. Video screens generate all colors by
using three basic colors red, green and blue by mixing them, so white is just a combination which the prism separated.

Issac Newton made use of a glass prism to discover white light was made up from many colors.
By the way, the gratings that are most often used these days are much cheaper than prisms. If that prism you have was a precision one (extremely flat
surfaces, no blemishes in the glass, exact angles, etc.) the price new these days would be hundreds of dollars. Any scratches or the like would
quickly decrease it's value.

Thanks for the thoughts, there's so much to know about optics. Another thing noticed on my back in bed and looking at my bare feet, it's so weird to
move my right foot and see my left foot move, juxtaposed seemingly perfectly as if it was a normal view, nothing out of place.
Not a very good view because I couldn't get my phone to focus but with the black border below, it only distorted in color in the vertical or whatever
is going on.

I showed this to my wife and she started laughing when I told her to wiggle her left foot and she sees her right foot move.
Here is what I see, the left foot is really my right foot and vice versa. It's hard to hold the phone and prism and focus but in person the field of
view is better and the clarity of the effect uncanny. The actual view looks absolutely normal through the prism, yet mysteriously it's not reality.
