Dissolving Platinum Group Metals with HCl and H2O2 - VIDEO
In this video:
I use HCl and 12% H2O2 to dissolve mixed black powder PGMs
I precipitate the platinum out of the solution with saturated ammonium chloride
Then I make clean chlorine gas using trichloroisocyanuric acid (swimming pool chlorine tablets) and hydrochloric acid in a gas generator
I bubble the chlorine into my the palladium solution to form an ammonia soluble brick-red palladium salt
The palladium salt is dissolved in 10% ammonia and solids filtered out
Then hydrochloric acid is added to re-acidify the ammonia and the beautiful bright canary yellow pure palladium salt precipitates out
The salt is transferred to a fused quartz dish and calcined into pure palladium sponge
