what is this?

I bought an chemistry collection from the 1940`s and came across the pictured item.

There are around 30 of them and they seem to get smaller in size. I've asked around and no one so far seems to know their purpose. Perhaps someone here knows?

I personally think it may be used for factionating distillations.

What size are they? I don't recall ever seeing anything like them...

Around 7cm height, and 5cm diameter at the widest point. They came with other glassware originating from germany. Though these are not marked, the other glassware'weremarked "Assistent" and "Made in Germany".

Perhaps, though insulators are normally porcelain or ordinary glass, these melt like borosillicate glass. I'm trying to think what I can use them for-?

Column inserts perhaps, I have similar ones although much smaller that fit into a b29 column, do they stack one upon each other?

Yeah they stack up and decrease in neck size.
